Continuing with the second part of our article concerning critical interview tips, we strongly recommend that you:
Control the tone of the interview. The person sitting across the desk has the power to hire you, or not.  Although bound by company policies and ethics, he or she may be having a bad day and may project that directly on to you.  It’s been known to happen, and no one is perfect.  Resist your most base instincts: do not, under any circumstances, stoop to the same level. Instead, navigate the interview on your terms; remain calm and positive. Heed our interview tips and the results of your meeting with the hiring manager may reap the positive outcome. Once your dialogue is over, the interviewer may realize that he or she had treated you poorly and that you, in turn, responded in the manner of a professional: confident in your skills, accomplishments, and potential contributions to the company.Â
Dress for the part. Your role on the interview is, of course, one of aspiring employee. Look the part. Although these interview tips should be common knowledge to the serious job seeker, some applicants insist upon eschewing the proper attire. Even if you are not applying for a managerial or supervisory position, it is imperative that you project the correct image.  Proper attire involves the purchase or maintenance and cleanliness of a well-fitting suit, shoes, and briefcase or portfolio. Inexpensive (non-leather) portfolios can be purchased at all major office supply retailers as well as most general retailers.  Good grooming is also a must: hair must be cut and styled properly, and if your hair is turning gray, consider coloring it.  Employers equate youth with enthusiasm, energy, and proactive thinking; if you insist upon keeping your silvered locks, grow them out once you have secured the position. Further tips for dressing the part can be found in one of our previous articles
